More thoughts?
reading these threads, I suggest:
- human-shaped Mecha are more logically intimidating (adding the
height to rolls)
- The versatility of weapons might be a factor
- e.g., the mecha-sized firearms can easily be traded, removed for repair
- they may be issued more easily in hostile environments for specific
missions (e.g., large-bore/ small bore/ flamer / laser / missile) (as
opposed to exposing connections of modular weapons)
This is legitimate, though a properly designed MBT with this in mind
could have it as well.
- altitude for sighting/radar/radio without flimsy antennas?
This would seem to add to visibility and thus ease of being detected and
shot at.
- legs permit passing smaller areas than wide tracks?
- footprints are slightly more stealthy than tracks (and more natural)
Legs would be weak points in the design. Also, we were debating the HAAM
Mk.2 suit on one of the Morrow Project lists some time back and I
brought up the question of ground pressure. All that weight focused on a
very small "foot" would make for a very high ground pressure and thus
poor ability to traverse most terrains without being bogged down.
