Good point, I hadn't considered it.

If the netting has several anchor points, none of them in areas that are easy 
for the attacker to access, cutting it may make an opening for the bird but is 
unlikely to be more than a nuisance to the defenders.

A varient of the same idea would have you using barbed wire anchored between 
fortified positions. At that point, even if they somehow get someone up there 
with wire cutters, anyone below with leather gauntlets could safely get it out 
of the way.

Narrow hallways generally favor the defender since there are less potential 
angles of attack.
