So a summary what i still would need for the Synois/auction adventure.
If i go with the "son takes over the villa of dad and has it refurnished" auction, i would go to dad having been an art collector, as it makes more sense to use an auction then, and used pieces might still be expencive.
So i'd need some noteworthy furniture. I can have a bed by the artist Hekthydrikos* with differnly long legs, i can have something with a carving of the bearded Hestia or something. Any more ideas?
Given the cylindrical shape of Roman books, i guess a secret compartment in a bedpost would be the best hidingplace for the book. Synois will always try out, if putting your bags under the bed is not hampering the use of the bed, to faciliate her slight of the hand.
The pcs should have some other thefts to watch or avert during the auction. Plain pickpocketry could work, but it will be only a minor incident. Robbers storming the premesis would most likely not work since the auctioneers should have installed some security and in general i want to work against the idea, that all non pc security is ineffective anyway. So that could work only with some nifty plan.
I can reuse the Dyrymoi brothers, who had allied with the pcs during the adventure, where Tribunus posed as his double. There they had been Syrian cooks, all with lot's of curly beard, all wearing very similiar tunics all talking with the same accent. So for their next apearence, they should all be shaved and bald, talking in a completly different accent and impersonating an other profession and all again wearing the same clothes, though very different from the ones from the last heist. My first idea has been them posing as some sort of religious order, explainign the shave. I'm not sure yet, what they want to steal at the auction, and thus not yet sure what function they should have there. Answering guests questions about there wares would be good though, as this allows them access to a lot of places and they spread around a lot.
