If you're going to try to detail units that are armed with Battlesuits, and
create a TO&E for it, you sort of need to determine the following:
Why are you building the "Heavy Infantry" unit?
How is it to be utilized?
Who is it to be utilized against?
What are the enemy tactics?
Once you start working on those tactics, your next step would be to ask
yourself "How would combined arms tactics work with these units?"
Back in the day, when I created the Cohen Main Battle tank, I also created
an APC that carried battle suited troops, and then tried to utilize a MBT
combined with APC squads working together. The Battlesuited troops had
light and heavy armored versions, along with a tri-barrelled gatling gauss
gun. The combined squad utilized the MBT to carry heavier computing power,
which in turn, resulted in a tac net that all suits were tied into. Where
required, the gauss guns would be used in anti-missile defense mode or as
anti-aircraft weapons, while the tanks main weapon was utilized as the main
offensive punch against ships (It could punch through a ship's hull at long
ranges when used as a coastal weapon), it could hit other tanks at range,
could fire beehive rounds, as well as high explosives, etc.
Why did I use APC's to carry the suits? Because I couldn't build them up to
"Starship Trooper" standards where they could move at vehicular speeds.
What conflict did I design these for? The war I envisioned them being used
for, was an anti-guerilla warfare style campaign in Columbia, against the
Narco-terrorists who were attempting to retain control over the country
where they could manufacture drugs and make billions of dollars annually.
The environment was as "unfriendly" as I could imagine against tank warfare
and battlesuit warfare.
In the end, I never ran that campaign, but I was looking to make it seem
"realistic". No cyberpunk, no really horrendously over the top technology -
just near future per GURPS VEHICLES rules. Even designed the weapons if I
recall correctly, right down to the anti-suit rockets used by the opposing
forces.
My suggestion Onno?
Do what I tried to do, but make it even MORE fun. Create a contest of
sorts, letting people make their OWN TO&E set ups. Let them design their
own weapon systems, and then field the units against Conventional troops or
even unconventional troops (After all, who would expect narco-terrorists to
field a well trained army if they don't have an actual government and/or
army?)
Of course, you don't even need to utilize the scenario I mentioned myself.
Just create your own scenario and take it from there. In addition? You may
want to look up how much weight is involved with waterbeds. If a house can
withstand the installation of a waterbed within it with modern construction
methods, then you may want to consider that this might be a good weight
limit to shoot for with internal "light battlesuits". Just musing...
