This is my preferred method. It also allows a suit to switch pods with another suit (his pod is damaged or weapon out of ammo, the other suit is out of action, etc). A squad's heavy weapons can also be tailored to the mission. Yes, a hand-held weapon has the same advantages, but the suit's hands aren't free for other activities.
