Obviously the lab was far away for safety and secrecy. Not enough to put
it into an asteroid, you put it into another solar system.

By and large, governments don't go to outsiders to solve their classified
problems. Deniable contractors, maybe, but no random guys off the street.
Perhaps they can't send the Marines because they're not cleared, but then
people with a sufficient clearance might not be allowed into danger.
Think of ULTRA in WWII.

So (1) something happens, (2) the scheduled tramp freighter doesn't come
back, (3) the corporate hotshot calls in the freelance PCs,
or (1) something happens, (2) the scheduled deniable freighter doesn't
come back, (3) the Marines go in and don't come back, (4) the HQ sends
their best guys, the PCs.

Player-proof your plots. Each encounter/scene needs multiple approaches.
If the players don't catch the subtle clues, be prepared to give them
unsubtle clues without the need for a recton.

Draw a good deck plan, that will offer ways to move about.

Why keep that top secret?

Cutting edge technology requires cutting edge researchers. Can you
disappear them to the edge of nowhere? Maybe in wartime, but then
reactions to problems in these research facilities will be drastic.

Again, why keep the fact that you're researching that secret?

Do the aliens agree to be kept secret?

That goes completely against the previous scenario notes.

You don't place secret labs in these places if you can't control them.

You need good explanations to mix slavery and high tech.

"Well, that's it for today. Shall we order a pizza?" There is the
unspoken contract between the players and the GM that the players
will play.
