Ablative shielding, with multiple incoming, not all are troopers and like.
Controled by gyro and roll/lee/yaw jets to keep the craft coming down and
not round and round and groan..
Once into the lower atmosphere, then its drop until your close to ground and
then either ballon or like, seen the Mars probes and how some landed, via a
giant ball?
Or jet pack of some sort, how large I hope not to large. Or yes some sort of
parachute or like but we are talking nearly to the ground so ... jet pack,
limited range might be best? Limited amount of fuel or some thing other than
normal petrofuel or like?
agreed on they are easy to see, shoot at and shoot down and yes often can't
hit anything short of a mountain well. Not sure about the most recent or
like?
Could also use a parawing or a ultralight, migth make things harder to be
seen (visual and radar/sonar/etc) and easier to shoot down and all? Also
they are much more maneueverable than a chute.

Parachutists are very attractive targets, and it's hard for them to
