Tiger and King Tiger, due to in part ego of Hitler and all, lead the attack in the "Battle of the Bulge" teachs some things.

1. One do not depend on a new untested weapon to do all it should be able to do. 2. If you have a tank, you got to have a way and means to remove it, take it back and repair it.
3. How to resupply it with ammo and more? Supply train or pillage?
4. If your tank is 40tons or so, but the bridges and roads are made for 30 tones or less, and they are narrow and like, so that you are channelized into only using bridges that can handle your weight and you have to cut the trees along the way and even upgrade the roads/bridges you best not put it first?

The Tiger was to heavy, it far as I know did not have the support system set up to fix it when it broke down or needed resupply, and it was to heavy for most of the bridges and roads and trails and too wide as well for many of the roads/trails in the Ardenne.

There was more but ... It was like when the M60 was replaced by the M1.

It was ok if you plan to only stay in S.Korea, and have a support network for it, such as recovering vehicles but the M88 was not strong enough normally to handle recovery of an M1 and the semi-available and trailer was not as well?

Also its an obvious things.

The Leopard of WW2 was fast, it was worked out with most of the bugs worked out and the support network was there and also the TACTICs for how to use it and training was there.

The Tiger did. Impressive but easy to take out unless you have some way to support it with infantry and like?

If I had the right explosives (Simulators), I could have taken one out by myself, well me and another Scout I knew, the supported infantry got over confident and the Tank commander, his mouth was very vocal!! Grin..

Timing and weather conditions was a major plus. The Infantry thoguth they had all the scouts taken care of (got to love former active duty infantry in an Army Guard unit, grin, they got bored and decided to attack the tank and supported platoon with 4 guys..

the other scout and I, came back later, when it was dusk, the fog had rolled in and we walked into the encampment and ... I hope the Active Army unit on its way to Iraq or Afghanistan took the lessons to heart and got home alive and well,

Mike

(I did have fun, even if it was counter to OPSEC, and shoved the Idea that acouple of NG (Nasty Guardsmen) almost took them out!).. Almost, but it was I needed a zero deloy mortar round simulator and we did not have one, so it was not a "Kill".. Suicide yes was the whole end of things but ..

Perimeter security was lack!
