I'll mentioned I considered dual-purpose missiles, like the ill-fated ADATS, 
but I couldn't decide a homing system and warhead good for both roles.

Because of point defense, they should probably reach their maximum range in one

A chest mount is probably best. An alternative is firing up from the back, then 
making a sharp turn don and forward.
