Sorry but let's talk about the generic solutions. Ok first the hot spot
script. this helps make program accessible buy finding places on the screen
that are important and then threw hot spots move the mouse to these places
for action.
Ok list focused windows well this allows you to move to windows that are not
in the tab order but can get the focus. This has in its turn provided
access to a number of programs that were not very accessible before. So
the scripting has already given you a very considerable amount of increased
access.
Ok now let's talk about the update script. for one your primus assumes that
people are members of mailing lists where this information is made
available. You also assume that gw micro isn't going to start making more
freankwent updates. In fact they should because they have created a very
easy delivery system. There is no reason to wait months or a year to correct
bugs. As a error comes in gw micro could debug it make a patch and then use
this script to deliver said patch. Just like windows update does now. This
will insure that your screen reader is even more rock solid then it is now
because as soon as problems are seen they are fixed. This is a when when
situation.

You said the obvious <grin>!! Unless GW starts planning freequent patches
and updates, and unless someone buries their head in the sand, it would be
almost impossible to miss for an extended period of time anything of
serious importance relative to WE updates.
Of course, part of the reason in developing such scripts is to demonstrate
to scripters things that they can accomplish via this technique.
Seeds could be planted for notices of things of far greater frequency.
As an example, let's say you want notices of online conferences. Well, a
scripter could develop such a script and those running the script might be
automatically reminded that this or that online chat, presentation begins
at 8 pm this evening and perhaps even be taken directly to the site.
Practically speaking, I am much more curious as to what scripters can
develop relative to making programs more user friendly or simplifying
tasks in those programs. To this point, we have seen little in this area
other than the work Jeff Bishop has done with Winamp and a few other
examples that don't immediately come to mind.
But before you run, you have to crawl and then walk.
Right now, we are in the crawling phsase where individuals are flexing
their muscles marveling at the technology, seeing what might be done,
playing with it, and all the rest.
As this knowledge builds, we will ultimately see far greater things than
we could ever imagine; and I believe that skilled scripters might even be
able to pick up a nice 2nd income selling truly useful and elaborate
scripts.
But before this can occur, there is that learning and experimentation
curve.
