Mike and others. The following message is very true. Any time that
something new is introduced to Window-Eyes, technical support will be
undoubtedly higher during the initial phase of people getting used to
the new changes. I hope that in my prior message, I did not come across
like it was either a good or bad idea as my message was meant to be a
neutral, general statement. We have not made public what all we plan on
addressing regarding the Browse mode overhaul, nor will we do so at this
point other than to reiterate that we are aware of things like area and
what changes we need to make to stay current with these new
technologies. I was simply wanting to alert people to the fact that just
because other screen readers do a certain thing, it does not mean that
we must automatically jump to follow suit and do it the exact way they do.
Hope this helps and hope things are clear.

You raise a good point that perhaps the cassual WE user hasn't thought
about.
In theory, what Sandra wants makes a lot of sense -- and I understand
where she is coming from.
As a practical heavy WE user who makes extensive use of the keyboard
commands, however, unless the implementation she desires is thought
through and designed carefully, it could cause as many headaches as it
resolves.
I think of discussions here and elsewhere where folks don't like this and
that -- MLB's decision in 2008 to go to Siilverlite as its media player
and the complaints that ensued.
Well, they listened to the complaints for the 2009 season and came up wit
something that many have decided is even worse. Bottom line: sometimes
leaving well enough alone is the best solution unless a solution brings so
many benefits that the change is a no-brainer.
And browse mode may be one of these that, if changed, even for the better
may cause as many complaints as compliments.
Remember how changing WE browser commands in WE4.5 took many users a long
time to absorb. Yes, those changes were necessary and for the long-time
betterment of the product, but that, in the short-term, didn't help those
struggling to break old habbits.
Extensive modification of browse mode, will undoubtedly in the short term
bring about a heavy work load for tech support as folks will have to
revise habbits -- and that takes both time and knowledge.
Hence, when those changes are made, they truly have to be for the
betterment long-term of WE and not just reflexive response to one issue.
O Lord, help me to do all the good I can, by all the means I can, in all the
ways
I can, in all the places I can, in all the times I can, to all the people I can
as
long as ever I can.
