I'm not sure where this conversation can take us really, but my two pence or
two sents worth is to say people are by and large conservative in their use of
screen readers and won't change unless there's some really compelling reason
to.

I tend to think Window-Eyes has always, well until recently, put people closer
to the Windows operating system with it's mouse navigation than seem to be the
case in JFW where automated reading via scripts latching on to the JAWS cursor
does tend to put them in a safe environment and away from Windows itself. They
get used to that and only come unstuck when scripts break due to interface
changes. Someone who's got used to exploring dialogues etc with the mouse
needn't get sunk in unfamiliar interface surroundings. (Not that you cannot
navigate the JAWS cursor yourself as I understand it, but you have to
consciously go into that mode to do it, and there seem to be many JFW users
who simply don't do that.) Let's not forget the HumanWare Keynote software
approach too which suits some folk.

I think this links too for me at least with a previous thread we've had on
specialist devices here and there's no mistaking it, some blind people do
prefer them, in spite of the price (and sometimes it's not the end user who's
paying of course!) Has to be said though that some of the most successful
hardware devices in the past have been things like the old Eurika braille
input notetaker, very much a blind persons device if ever there was one. We
could site the Victor Stream as a present day success story in the same mould
and who knows if the GW "Sense" products mightn't attract a similar loyal
following.

Some say that window eyes is a million times better than JFW, some say the
other way around. What does everyone (and I mean everybody) think about this
one?
