Well, although your warning might be in place, there is a few registry cleaners, that ain't all that agressive. I am running Iobit Advanced System Care, as well as CCleaner. Running them here all the time, and have been ok with that. But, you might have to do just a few settings first time, so as to make sure what your cleaner is actualy tiding up. And, True, there is quite a few softwares out there, who are way to eager, hence might cause more trouble than benefit. I know, several members on this list, do use both the above mentioned pieces of software. They should be pretty safe. If you need any assistance in setting them up, or operating them, the list will be happy to help you out.

It is generally no good to be too paronoid. You dont rip the whole carpet off, just to vacuum your house, you know. Unfortunately, I do find, that quite a few Paid For services, might be a bit more agressive, than what I like them to.

The above mentioned software do have a free version. Well, CCleaner is all free. Advanced System Care, does have a free, and a Paid For service. They are both recommendable.

Then, you always have a few Online scanners, that do check for viruses, malware, defragmentation of your hard disk, and even does a bit of registry cleaning. Microsofte OneCare is one of them, and I do wonder if Eset Online scanner might be doing a bit of registr cleaning as well. Yet, none of these really do a thorough job. They more like just dusting the registry, particularly ridding it for malware.

As for the backing up of the registry, before doing any cleaning. Yes, if you want to do so, it might never hurt. In that manner, I do recommend CCleaner, since it automatically will remind you to do so, whenever you are about to run the cleaning process. y ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Belle" <[email protected]>

Be very careful and back up your system before running a registery cleaner.

Most advanced technicians will discourage you from running those,
and unless you know all the dependancies, and know exactly what you are doing, you can mess up a lot of stuff doing so.

Make sure your reg cleaner will accurately un-do changes.

This is one area where microsoft has actually improved in the last few years,
a very knowledgeable technician
I know named Brian smart
posted a very interested article about xp and windows 7 and how the registry is more efficient now, when all the driver ills are finally straightened out, most common computer maintainance tasks are automated,
and many common computer tweaks aren't necessary anymore.

But I digress,
the main problem with cleanin the registry is that you my inadvertently remove some reference to something that will cripple a program,
so be careful.

Every time I've done a registry clean, even a conservative one, something gets stuffed up, and I have to fix it.

Better to just image when your system gets trashed out.

Hello all,

There seems to be a great many out there, without any indication of

Can I please have a recommendation of an accessible Windows 7 registry

Many thanks in advance.
