Hi Kathy,

Was the knowledge base article the one on turning off sound effects? If so I'd double check to make sure that's off. It's usually the cause of the stuttering problem.

And if your system has an on-board RealTek sound chip set I'd check for updates. They are notorious for causing all kinds of problems like this and being unstable in general. I've personally had someone sighted disable them in bios on every system I've had and installed another sound-card. It's always made everything work much better. You can see what it is by going to the control panel, device manager, sound, video, and game controllers.

Regarding IE? The mouse not seeing the page content in IE9 is a known issue due to a change in the way Microsoft renders data and there is no current workaround for this. But I've had no problems with IE9 since Microsoft decided to install it a couple months ago, even though I had set that update to be hidden.

I'd open the View menu and make sure that all tool bars are unchecked other than menus and status bar. Then uncheck all explorer bars. And if you have any additional add-ons installed by other programs that are sometimes tacked onto programs we want to install I'd uninstall those. Go to control panel, Programs and features, and look for things like Google, Yahoo, or AOL instant messenger tool-bars. These can wreak havoc in IE.

Hth,
Tom

Hi All:
This email did not get sent correctly last night and so here it is
again. I am at my wits end about what to do with an ongoing situation
with WE stuttering. It was tolerable at first, and then things got much
worse when I installed WE 7.54.
I got a new windows 7, 64 bit computer in March of this year. Since day
1, WE will stutter and sound weird severaal times a day. It didn't last
long. It would just do it for about 30 seconds. In addition, WE would
also go quiet for a few seconds, and then resume speaking. The silence
always bothered me, because I would think that WE had crashed, but it
hadn't. I soon figured out, that whenever the stuttering occurred, if I
redrew the screen, it would work right for a while. I even called GW
about this matter and was referred to a Knowledge base Article for a
fix. I followed the instructions, but nothing changed.
Then I installed WE 7.54 Thursday night. Big mistake!!! The stuttering
has greatly increased. It is stuttering every few minutes. Sadly, I
can't play any of my music files, because they stutter too. I've even
tried playing the same file, and other files in Winamp, I-tunes, and
Windows Media Player, all with the same result. I can't hear a complete
song without this stuttering issue occurring. What do I do? Even my
music is stuttering! My entire computer has become totally unstable,
when it comes to sound. I can't even play anything on the internet.
Rebooting, doesn't change a thing.
I've been a WE user since the 90's. I even remember the days of
Vocal-Eyes. I always have and will love Window Eyes. Nevertheless, I say
with great sadness, I have never seen WE as unstable as it has been with
the last few upgrades; starting with WE 7.5. Links not activating in
IE8, under XP, I have experienced it. Windows shutting down to prevent
damage to the computer, due to memory leaks from WE, I have experienced
that too. Repeated IE crashes, I know about that. Even now, with IE9 and
my new computer, I am still loading and unloading web pages, just to get
them to read correctly. WE 7.5 and beyond, does not seem to see
everything on the screen. And reading with the mouse keys, is not
possible at this point.
I deeply and sincerely apologize for sending such a long message to this
list. I greatly value my membership, the wisdom, and counsel given on
this list. And i am not a complainer usually. It's just that WE's
behavior in the last two days is just a bit too much. I will be calling
GW, first thing Monday morning, and see if they have a solution for
stabilizing the sound on my computer, but that is over 24 hours away. I
just needed a listening and sympathetic ear tonight. My family doesn't
understand my woes concerning WE. They just know that it is impossible
to play anything, music or otherwise, on my computer, with WE running.
Please, be endulging with me. Thank You for reading this!
