I think if you listen to the Vocalizer voices on a decent pair of headphones
or speakers, you'll find that they are better than DecTalk. Of course, some
of this is a matter of preference, but DecTalk always sounded to me like
Sven Jorgensen after a couple of glasses of Aquavit.

Hi Robert.
I started out with a similar opinion, and was advised by Doug that there
are royalties to be paid.
My grizzle was also that I felt that we should get these new voices as
part of the SMA, but again, royalties.
Paying for someone to produce something which we might like: a fact of
life.
I also felt that Raul's discussion of technology advances was a
reasonable approach.
I have not yet purchased the new voices, because I actually don't like the
sound of Dectalk, so unless quality is much better, I might bew glad that
I haven't paid for something, or been given something, which I might not
use.
Vaughan.

Dear Raul,
The only difference to me is that those of us who are not new users are
being punished for our loyalty over many years. I am not complaining
particularly - after all, I feel that I have received good service from
you over the years - but I do not see why new users should get the
advantage of receiving something free while the rest of us have to pay for
it.
Best regards,
Robert

Curtis, you say JFW gives the voices away? Hmm, that's interesting
considering their upgrades are more expensive, they charge you for extra
features of JFW to use, ETC. So, yes, on the surface they might be free,
but are they really free? That's like a store raising its prices before
having a sale. In any case, new users of Window-Eyes from 8 and on will
have them for free. So, what's the difference?

wow!
$39 for all the English voices is a good deal though JFW does give the
voices away. :) the same voices, in fact.

Tried a combo-box on another site and it worked fine.
The site I was trying to listen to the voices was:
