Hi Karli.
I've found one site in Australia,m.abc.net.au is sensational with
the VS. It's, the site, designed for people using mobile,
(cell), I think you call them in the US?!! phones. It's a news
site! Just try it! Wouldn't it be cool if all sites loaded as
quickly as this one does!
So, if the media outlet you're visiting has a site for mobiles,
(cells), I'm sure it may be good too! Perhaps when you do you
could let the list know!
Peter.

Subject: Re: [GWN] Problem With Previous Page Command When Using
web Browser
Hi Don,
Thanks very much for taking the time to try both the google news
link I used and the backspace p command for me. I really
aprreciate all the help you've been providing so far. Regarding
the type of internet connection, I am using a cable connection,
which to my understanding is similar in speed to a DSL one. With
that in mind, and the fact that my braille sense froze on both
tries of a page that yours did not freeze on, do you think that I
should be somewhat concerned? What else can you suggest besides
just trying that google news link and previous page command
again? Just out of curiosity, did you get the "loading page"
message before the web browser program took you to the previous
page? If not, have you ever encountered that message before, and
in what context did it occur? Also, would you happen to know why
my braille sense sometimes repeats itself when reading line by
line until I press space 5 or space 2 to read the next or
previous word; this also happened while reading an article from
the same google news page I've been using.
Cheers
Karli

Hi Karli,
Thanks for the exact link, that helps a lot.
First of all I'm using dsl here so have a reasonably fast
connection to the internet and I'm connecting the braillesense
plus using wireless.
I went to the link you provided and the page did load. I
followed a couple of links and was able to use the backspace p
command to go back to the previous page and tried it a couple of
different times successfully.
The one thing I really noticed about this whole site is how
slowly it loads with the braillesense.
It really is one of the slowest pages for loading I've seen,
and the same held true with using the backspace p command.
If you're using a dialup connection, you might want to consider
going out for dinner and taking in a show while the page loads.
<smile.
My guess is that it has something to do with the very large
number of links and such on the page, but that's only a guess.
Don't be nervous about using the web browser as you can't hurt
anything. The worst that might happen is that it can lock up on
some pages and you'll have to do a reset, but if the browser is
all you have open, you really won't loose any data.
Maybe Raul will have some thoughts on this.
Hope this helps,
Don

Hi Don and Mike,
Don. Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. The address
of the page I used was http://news.google.ca/nwshp?hl=en&tab=wn
From there, I clicked on a news story in the top stories
portion of the page. After reading the article, I then pressed
backspace p to go to the previous page, and that's when the unit
would freeze up and just display "loading page" until I press the
reset button. I am nervous about trying to use the web browser
program anymore because I don't know what other problems will
come up. Thus far, I noticed that pages load very slowly,
sometimes its tricky to read information because the braille
sense seems to have problems reading line by line without
repeating itself, and of course because the unit freezes up with
a simple command as "go to previous page".
Mike, thanks for your insite. I'm sorry you feel that I am
overreacting because my braille sense has been behaving
strangely. Its just that here in Canada, a braille sense plus
costs almost $8000, so it's only natural for me to want to know
whether my unit is deffective or the problems I mentioned are
common for these types of braille notetakers. Thanks again to
both of you for your comments and suggestions. I would truly
appreciate any insite you may have on using the braille sense's
web browser program.
Cheers
Karli

Karli,
What link did you use to get to the google news page?
I tried www.google.com/news and when I clicked on a story
the bs tried to download a file rather than go directly to a news
article.

Subject: [GWN] Problem With Previous Page Command When
Using web Browser
Hi,
On my second attempt at the google news web page, my
braille sense plus again locked up when I pressed backspace p to
go back to the previous page. Immediately after I pressed
backspace p, the braile displayed showed "loading page", and
stayed that way until I pressed the reset button; nothing else
worked including the power button. Could one of you please try
that command after clicking on a news story to see if the same
thing happens. I am really concerned that my unit is deffective;
I had the memory stick problem before as well. Also, is it
normal for the unit to repeat by voice and braille display parts
of lines until one reads work by word with the space 2 or space 5
command? It just seems to be a pretty tedious way of accessing
the internet if it is normal for the braille sense to function
that way. Any help with regard to using the web browser program
would be greatly appreciated. I was really hoping to use my unit
for the internet but so far had not had a very good experience.
