Don't use pleating tape, the pleats end up being only about 1/2" deep, so there are a lot of them to sew. And the tape adds a lot of bulk. Instead make a facing with 1/4" gingham. That way you can easily make even pleats, using the gingham as a guide. I like making pleats 1" deep. Quick whip
stitches  and you're done!

I do cartridge pleats with no marking at all, just eyeballing them, and they come out fine.
