This thread has gotten completely off the track of where it started.
Feel free to create a 'One individual is trying to take over Habari'
thread and continue from there. In the meantime, focus on Rich's post
here.

Much of the issue with branches is cultural. I know I've hesitated to
contribute to them from lack of a feeling of ownership, to put it in
words as best I can. If I've felt that way, I'm sure others have. I
don't think it is something that has been actively encouraged, but
from seeing what the lack of more than one or two people working in a
branch. The Monolith branch has been mentioned as a success story, but
even it didn't get much of the work done on it that was needed until
it was merged to trunk.

The other issue is with lack of knowledge. To someone who lacks
experience, creating branches is scary, especially to one who has
screwed up the repository in a major way before. :)
