What you now see is pretty much what I see also. And, because your delta
is in the 1-2C range, I would accept that your current case is well
ventilated when buttoned up. The delta I see is in the 2-3C range.
I believe the temp difference you do see is because when the covers are
off your heat sinks become exposed to a larger mass of cooler air. They
take advantage of this (laws of therm-o-dynamics), and, show a reduced
temp. JMHO.
