Anthony,
I still share your critique. I never joined the bigger, faster, more case fan club. I focused on cases that allowed for a free flow (exchange) of air from front to back at a relative CFM. Yes, I suppose the discussion still rages about dressing cables that affect smooth air flow.

Even now that I use Swiffer sheets as fan filters, I still have to vacuum my cases ~twice/yr. The vacuum and a soft camel-hair artist brush is my chosen PM mode.

I have never owned a hermetic case. Not even sure that one is sold! Dust still gets into a case through seams, cracks around opticals, floppies, etc., just because there is a moving air "plenum" inside the case. JMHO.
Best,
Duncan

Duncan,

Thank's for the confirmation and the comparison. I think you're logic makes sense, but then I wonder why people are buying all of these case fans and stuff to get better cooling...when one method is just to keep the air exposure at a max? Is dust really that much of a problem these days? Seems as if th only moving parts are the fans!!! A "blow out" every six months should do....

Anthony,
What you now see is pretty much what I see also. And, because your delta is in the 1-2C range, I would accept that your current case is well ventilated when buttoned up. The delta I see is in the 2-3C range. I believe the temp difference you do see is because when the covers are off your heat sinks become exposed to a larger mass of cooler air. They take advantage of this (laws of therm-o-dynamics), and, show a reduced temp. JMHO.

What does it mean when I get about 1-2C less idle-core temps when my case is open (both sides removed) vs when my case is closed? Should it be the other way around? Does it imply the case is not properly vented?
