Thank's for the confirmation and the comparison. I think you're logic
makes sense, but then I wonder why people are buying all of these case
fans and stuff to get better cooling...when one method is just to keep
the air exposure at a max? Is dust really that much of a problem these
days? Seems as if th only moving parts are the fans!!! A "blow out"
every six months should do....

I believe the temp difference you do see is because when the covers
are off your heat sinks become exposed to a larger mass of cooler air.
They take advantage of this (laws of therm-o-dynamics), and, show a
reduced temp. JMHO.
