This is the point I was originally making, and is reason to push the
Haskell 2 effort along. Indeed, I fear that the existence of Standard
Haskell might impede the urgency to develop Haskell 2. And while the
process meanders, most people will use the latest version of Hugs or GHC
or whatever that supports MPC's, and ignore standard Haskell.
Someone expressed the opinion (I think) that the Haskell 2 completion
date was beyond the year 2000. This would be unfortunate.
I would like to propose that we make a concerted effort to completely
finalize Haskell 2 by Jan 1, 2000, which means really finalizing all
serious design issues within the next 12 months.
