I admit that I have been very fortunate to be at a place that is
developing an important Haskell implementation, and just figured that I
would make sure that a version of it existed to support whatever
teaching/book-writing that I was involved with :-)

In any case, I didn't mean to sound so negative about Standard Haskell,
but I'm glad that I brought it up, because it seems to have touched a
nerve, at least with respect to the name.  I like Haskell 1.5 or Haskell
98 better than Standard Haskell.
