No offense intended again; but maybe now is the time to not use developer *always* and look at it as a regular player, in steady intervals. ;)
I find myself doing that a-lot, just running it like a normal player would to see how it is, to make sure nothing is missed, it's quite a good thing to do. Things like that can solve a lot of issues.

When you're busy working on something like a modification, it is just simply not possible to always know everything at all times. You can catch bugs at any point in development. Death messages have just recently begun to be a problem because our beta testers (around 60 or so people) have been complaining about the lack there of. I never noticed the death messages not being there, because, well, I work with developer enabled *always* - I just didn't happen to figure out that the death messages did not show up when developer wasn't enabled.
Who would? Not with a mentallity of it working all these months. I did not know that the death messages didn't work until recently.

First off, i wan't to appologize to you for anything you may have taken out of my statements as a personal attack on you. That was not my intention; however, what i said, i stand by 100%, same with what shimms said.
I just, really really really get sick and tired of seeing the constant whining (whether it was intentional or not) coming from peoples keyboards regarding steam and valve. I'm sick of the constant "wah wah steam sucks" "wah wah steam is gay" "wah wah valve broke my mod with steam" "wah wah valve sucks for changing things!"
it's just, getting so old.
There comes a point when you just have to say "fine, they've changed something; is this _really_ a bad thing?" There hasn't been a single change to HL thus far that tickles me the wrong way, Infact quite the contrary. The notify thing should have been obvious if you actually spent any time with steam, as the steam version of HL has been this way since it was in beta. Thats quite a long time y'know, and if you were really wanting to support steam, shouldn't you be aware of changes that have been around for MONTHS? That's where i stand on that.
Really though, if you sit down and actually look at it, if you have any idea what you're doing with this SDK you've had for years, you'd realize that something like this is so easy to overcome. (the you is generalized, to anybody that could ever read this.) Instead of getting a hot head over it, it's far simpler; and better on you if you actually sit back for five minutes and think about the solutions. You could fix all that for 3.0 in an hour...tops. but are you willing to? Thats the issue you have to work out for yourself.
As i said above; im just getting sick of the constant whining from the HL and HL Modding community regarding steam, and valves choices regarding _their game_.
Everyone who is always bitching/whining about minor things like this needs to sit back and think for a minute: Would we even be here if it wasn't for valve, and valve's decisions at all? They chose to support us. Maybe we should support them and any decision they make whether they announce it flat out or not.
