hint brushes don't explicitly block vis at all, thats why they're called "hint" brushes. they hint at the tool to try and split there, but they don't always split, because of the whole seeing into eachother part. I'm not good at describing these things, but from my understanding they break up the map (which they do, if you view the map after, the brushes with hint/skip on them break the brushes they touch just like normal brushes do) and then make another node. but if one part of each node can see eachother, then it still part of the same vis node.
hint brushes don't force splits.
maybe thats what we need to do, modify the tools and make "split" brushes or something, that explicitly break them, without testing if anything should be visible :/
