This is exactly the procedure I use and the setinfo variable does not get
written to my config.cfg

Here is an example script (admin.cfg):

setinfo "pw-fakeadmin" "fakepassword"
developer 1
echo [ADMIN] password has been set
developer 0

connect 64.35.57.141:27015

I place the admin.cfg in the /valve directory.  Then I start half-life,
click on the console button in the main menu and type in the console:

exec admin.cfg

I automatically get connected to my server and logged in as an Admin.  And
I don't have the problem that L Kevin describes with 1.1.0.8 and AdminMod.
