Long before broadband was available in my area, I had DirecPC satellite
internet service. As Mike explained, the satellite provided my downstream
and dial-up provided my upstream. While it was possible to play games, the
jumpy gameplay and 400 ms average ping took away a lot of fun. I can only
imagine what gameplay would be like with two-way satellite service. Yikes!

I used the satellite service strictly for browsing and downloading. When I
played games, I used a regular dial-up account. It wasn't the best but it
made gaming possible.
