The load on our server has increased without fail nearly every single patch since launch. We used to run 32x servers on each core of a 1.8ghz c2d (srsly), now we have a 2.4ghz and its not as smooth as it was a few months ago. srcds is not very optimized, but doesn't seem to be very high on valve's to do list.
As far as optimizations - If you're using a linux server, you can try getting rid of any RT patchset you're using, turning on HPET+Hi res timers, dynamic tics, and turning kernel resolution down to 100hz/300hz. Using taskset to bind instances to one per core, and chrt to give them FIFO access on that core, all gave us noticeable smoothness/CPU benefits. - Neph On 01/27/2010 10:31 AM, Terry Robinson wrote: > Through September our dedicated server seemed capable of handling 150+ > people TF2 participants without pegging the processor but after the WAR > update, 90 people seems to put the processor at 95+% uage.
