You need to install your mod in Steam/SteamApps/<email addr>/Half-Life directory. The hl.exe (in the Steam/SteamApps/<email addr>/Half-Life) can be run to start hl. If you specify "-game <mod>" it will start that mod. Steam (the GUI) auto-detects these installed mods and makes them appear in the games list.
Internally hl.exe will spawn steam and then run itself (via magic, and windows messages), but this is a detail you don't need to worry about. - Alfred Terry wrote: > Thanks.
