Email address = account name.

I presume the main motivation for multiple copies would be to preserve
per user configurations. However, once a mod is in the 'steam file
system' a lot of this duplication is unnecessary, as everything 'static'
remains in the cache, only the configuration files would need
duplicating.

...also, since the Steam e-mail address is part of the directory name,
if 3
people are using the same computer with 3 different Steam logins,
doesn't
that mean that a MOD would need to be installed 3 times...

Steam\SteamApps\email_user_1\halflife\BlasterMOD\50megabytes_worth_of_fi
les

Steam\SteamApps\email_user_2\halflife\BlasterMOD\50megabytes_worth_of_fi
les

Steam\SteamApps\email_user_3\halflife\BlasterMOD\50megabytes_worth_of_fi
les

...instead of having a shared directory...

Steam\SteamApps\halflife\BlasterMOD

???, I'm not sure I understand the requirement for the e-mail address in
the
pathname. The e-mail address would still be required to authenticate
with
Steam and Steam shouldn't care about whether a user has paid for a
non-Valve
MOD and wouldn't need to restrict access to MODs that someone hasn't
paid
for, right?
