Ah, when I ran the update it expected the root l4d folder to be "left4dead" when it used to be "l4d". So I tried setting up symlinks which made it happy until I tried to run the server then it complained that it needed updates even though the update script said it was all good. When I started fresh the steam program created a new left4dead folder with l4d inside of it, maybe it was just me.
