Haven't you heard of this new device called a "valve" which removes the need to 
actually detach the crooks?
Admittedly, I can't quite see how you'd operate 17 of them with only 2 hands, 
but woodwind players seem to have found a variety of solutions. You can 
dispense with the pack animal too as there are now wheeled devices with 
"engines" that can move by themselves. Isn't it amazing?
