It's the same with some muting passages. I wish I could just remember specific 
examples. 

There's nothing bad in learning how to stop quickly and correctly. But it is a 
pandora's box in a way because not only are we the only instrument that does it 
but once a learning composer hears it done well they think everyone can do it 
well and that's not always the case.

When done correctly, it's a tolerable sound. When done incorrectly, it's like 
running a lawnmower over a cymbal or something. 

It's similar to flatulence. It's good to learn how to control it in public but 
we're not making a symphony out of it.

I would point out the one issue not addressed that was brought up in  
original thread.  Some works require one note stopped, next one open.   
I think Peer Gynt was mentioned. Hard to do with a mechanical device.
