If man was meant to fly he'd have been born with wings - such as if a man were
meant to be carted about the almighty himself would have the merit and tenacity
to attach to our limbs wheels forthwith!

I do indeed realize the culpability of this new valve mechanism, but being of
sound mind I cannot recommend it verily. One must learn a completely new system
of music making, and I trust that if one has that much available time in their
schedule then they may as well become a printer or a stableman as well as a
musician!

I also wish to note that I did manage to spot a quite ingenious and
extraordinary method of changing the tonic of the instrument - and indeed it is
called a "Cors Omnitonique!" I had the privilege of spotting such an instrument
in Paris (and may I say it is a monstrosity which does spook the horses) last
summer, and while it did provide a great deal of flexibility, the sheer
magnitude of metal that it contained within was remarkable. I say, after only
ten minutes of playing my arms were so tired that it was difficult to lift a
fork for dinner!

(Boy I wish we still talked like that)

William,
Haven't you heard of this new device called a "valve" which removes the need to
actually detach the crooks?
Admittedly, I can't quite see how you'd operate 17 of them with only 2 hands,
but woodwind players seem to have found a variety of solutions. You can
dispense
with the pack animal too as there are now wheeled devices with "engines" that
can move by themselves. Isn't it amazing?

Ah, the future for horn-playing is bright!
