A few times I've stuck a regular mute in instead of stopping a note to see if anyone notices when the section plays.
I've never had anyone (including anyone in the section) say anything. I don't have the cajones to try this on a solo stopped section though. -William -----Original Message----- From: valerie wells <[email protected]> To: horn list 2 memphis <[email protected]> Sent: Wed, May 19, 2010 1:36 pm Subject: Re: [Hornlist] non-transposing stop mute IF: One hornist produces a pleasing sound using a non-transposing stop mute. Another produces a pleasing sound using a styrofoam coffee cup. A third does a splendid job using a transposing stop mute. The fourth accomplishes the same thing using his/her hand. AND: The director is please with all four. THEN: Whose business is it anyway?
