Yes, remembering specific examples, that´s it. "Yes, yes, I played this great, great piece by the great composer, but I cannot recall the pieces title & the composer." I read such on this list several times.
Do such people play a demanding or great piece with any thought or what ??? Or do they just execute it more or less converting black dots on white paper into more or less correct pitches. "And they call it playing music" ???????? What, the hell, is so difficult with stopping & transposition ? It is part of the package, if you learn horn playing. Horn playing is not a matter of "buying the best, but still cheap horn & play" unlike any "plug ´n play device". It is a thorough process of acquiring the skill methodically, one step after the other, without jumping any step. If the principle of stopping is understood, if the rules are observed, when & where "gestopft" functions properly, and if a "device" is used on places, where a stupid composer wrote "gestopft" in a range & dynamic making no sense with it, "gestopft" will not be any issue. Using a "gestopft"-mute for extreme quick use, can be made easier, if the mute is equipped with a sling to be held with the wrist. Muted passages interspersed with open notes are best played with the conical mute (sordino), which is to be inserted full for the muted (sordino) notes & lifted out a bit for the open notes. I do not understand, why so many folks need everything explained over & over, even folk, who tend to experiment or even plumb around with their horns. It seems paranoia, brain erased or what. But stubbornly stuck like oxen if the stable has got a new door, sorry. ############################################################### Am 19.05.2010 um 23:22 schrieb [email protected]: > > It's the same with some muting passages.
