Hi Larry,

I'm not about to pre-empt any response from Hans but if ever I want a
perfect example of a peevish mail response, I nominate yours for first
prize.

I am the first to own up to my being ignorant about US amateur/
community orchestras etc but I have helped out/conducted equivalent
ensembles in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands and I can't say I
have experienced the sort of rivalry, competitive ethos, jealousy and
the undermining of 'colleagues' exampled on the Horn List. I'm not
surprised the confidence and performance of some first horns is being
shot to pieces if this is what goes on in the section.

I suggest that most pros who contribute try to be positive and helpful
- after all, they have a lot to give. If we sow our seeds on stoney
ground it still won't stop us trying our best to be of help. However,
if you feel there is nothing to be gained from our contributions...
well that is your entitlement. Sad, though.
