Sorry, but the difference between an amateur and a pro is NOT skill. It's
whether they choose to make a living out of it.

I can think of several examples of amateurs who are better than some pros.

It is necessary, Larry, to call a bunch of amateurs from their dreams back to
real world. And, what you (I mean the community of amateurs) often think to be
a
good player, wow, within your community ??????? My nephew is also a very good
conservatory studied violinist, was national champion of Taek Won Do, but is a
world class Informatic (IT) man, doctorate summa cum laude, owns & commands
successfully a special software company. When he studied in the USA, he played
with several amateur symphonies as guest concert master. He told me about their
concerts ............

There are very engaged amateurs out, and amateurs who could be in very good
orchestras, but did not make it a living for whatever circumstances. But I
speak
now to the other big mouth amateurs:

Be happy that we as professionals devote our time to teach you "how to hold the
horn, where to put right or left hand, how to pucker a decent note, or where to
find the way out or the way even to the restroom". Be happy.

How said the captain to the private: "If you dont like to integrate yourself to
the existing organism, buy yourself a cannon & make your own army."

pros get out of it, too. This thread was about an amateur ensemble issue, the
seating of musicians. The originator of the thread is actually a much better
horn player than the person sitting in the principal position of the ensemble
she was writing about, and in her modesty she did not claim herself to this
list
to be such. You pros have your own issues, and we understand that your work
environment is extremely competitive and tense.

has another day job (not as a horn player), and thus can play without the
pressures of a pro. Paul, in particular, is toxic and hasn't contributed a
worthwhile comment to the thread. I suggest you pros stay on your own topic
threads if you can't maintain the integrity of the thread topic as presented,
as
you have highjacked this topic to vent your own pet peeves.
