Hi Tom, I don't know if they are now calling the media profiles media presets in order to avoid confusion. I think it's more to replace Quick sets. It's more of a quick way to choose the best options for a certain type of print you want to do. But I might be wrong, I'd have to double check that.
To answer your question, not really. The thing is, linearization happens on the printer side and not when you are soft proofing. Soft proofing just uses the in and output profiles and a rendering intent to proof your colors. The linearization values are applied much later in the workflow after the pixel data has been translated into dot data for the printer. Well, I'd say, keep dreaming. Dreaming enforces the imagination and so you can depend on your eyes when you see something............;). Wouldn't what ever you do to change the characteristics of how the printer prints (in this case linearization) , need to be profiled, if you intend to reflect those changes in the soft proofing you are doing in Photoshop? I hope this more clearly explains my interpretation. I can't wait to actually get the machine and start playing, but in the meantime it sure is fun to dream.
