I actually sign the mat with pencil in additon to signing the print
itself - thank you for pointing this out - I had started using sharpies
because I came across something claiming that they
were archival - digging again, I see that while they have changed their
formula in the not too distant past, they still don't advertise them as
archival themselves.
I guess its back to the pigma micron pens for the print margin...

First off, I will admit that I have not read all the replies and I'll
take my time out for that now. The only way to sign prints that I am
aware of that is truly archival is with a pencil. Sharpies seem to
fade after about 15 years, even under the best conditions. However,
anyone who has actually tried to write on a HP print knows that is a
non-starter. So that leaves
