synth recommedation

I'm looking to buy a used synth for under 500 bucks to use in conjunction with
the Rm1x.  Part of me wants to save a bit more dough and get a Nord Micro
Modular, and another part of me wants to get something sample-oriented like an
Alesis QS6.  Got any ideas, peeps?
