Did some exploring this afternoon. I went down to Gotch Park today, and walked the back woods and sand pits. Numerous Blue-winged Teal and Wood Ducks, some Rusty Blackbirds and one lifer a WINTER WREN was inspecting the snags. Also the pair of Bald Eagles were on their nest at Gotch.
Stretches of the W Des Moines River have been flooding for the last week and as such there were a number of productive sheetwaters (esp adjacent and North of Bradgate) these had flocks of Wilson's Snipe and Yellowlegs as well as other puddle ducks. The waterfowl have moved on from the Ottosen Potholes but I did find a Fox Sparrow in the entry shrubbery and on the way home I found a Vesper Sparrow on the roadside.
