Some folks have that role forced on them...

A couple of years ago, volunteering at a community service event, I
was paired up with a lady who happened to be working for EDS -- but
not for long. EDS was going through a RIF at the time and she was one
of the victims, her job being transferred to an overseas branch of the
company. Until her last day, however, she was being REQUIRED to train
her replacement.

ISTR about that time that EDS and IBM *both* got into a little bit of
bad PR over this kind of issue. Both companies were going through RIFs
of their staffs here in the US, transferring jobs to overseas offices.
Word leaked out to the press that both companies were requiring the
RIF victims to train their replacements before departing. Reaction to
these reports even included some talk in Congress about legislation to
prohibit this kind of action. IIRC, IBM came out with a statement that
the company would no longer require RIF'd employees to train their
replacements unless that original employee had another position within
the company.
