IBM has already implied that the TOD register is intended to be a programming interface by stating in the POP manual:
“13. Uniqueness of TOD-clock values can be extended to apply to processors in separate configurations by including a configuration identification in the TOD programmable field.” IBM should state (in z/OS documentation) that z/OS guarantees a unique value in each register of a sysplex (as suggested in the POP manual), however, the particular value is not a programming interface, only that the value will be unique within a sysplex. IBM should state in other operating system (z/VM, VSE, etc.) documentation, how it sets or does not set that register. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
