Less than two years ago I paid over 13k for an 83 C27 with new bottom job,
topside and deck paint, newly varnished brightwork, low hour diesel and new
mainsail with furler and three headsails including spinnaker.  There are so
many factors that I don't see anyone discussing.  When was the last bottom
paint?  Ever have a blister job. Interior condition? How many hours on that
inboard?  What goodies are thrown in?  ANchors? Stainless steel grill? Heater?
Dodger, Bimini?.........

I paid what I paid for mine becuase it was freshly refurbished and I would have
very little maintenance for the next 3 years.  Obviously, market is also
important.

Just like cars...... there's a 73 Chevy that is a rust bucket, and a 73 Chevy
that is cherry original, or one that has had a full restoration.  They sure
aren't all gonna be the same price or the same condition.

Some people enjoy working on their boats.  I enjoy sailing mine!  So, I paid
for the labor someone else had put into it.  For me, it's not a bargain if it
is a huge work project.  But I'm LAZY!  :-)

I'm not comparing a 78 with an 84. Here's an 82 for a bit more than half.

She's clean, well maintained and the owners will probably end up taking $5-7k.
The market is what the market is.

Wait a minute !

You mean to tell me that a  Mid 1980's boat with an inboard diesel with lots of
additions . Goes for the SAME price as....
an Older 1978... Outboard ..Basic Catalina 27 ?

I don't know about what's going on in some regions of the world, but one only
has to look at the listings in YachtWorld.com to see
That 1980's boats are listed from between 10,000 and 19,000 .. and in a lot of
locations.
A further look shows that the... 1970's.... are going for a lot less, for sure.

Really, Is the market so depressed that there's NO difference in price between
the  models when SELLING ?
I'm sorry but it doesn't make sense to me ...
Comparing prices for a 1978 with a 1984 and coming up with "similar boats are
selling for a third of 15,500 "   Huh ?

Will they get their asking prices ?  I don't know, but I sure think that asking
for $ 15K and maybe settling on a couple thou Less would make a lot more
sense..... Than asking $ 5,000 (as was suggested) just to sell it off.

Where did I go wrong ?
