Each augments the other.

Because the desktop was never developed. Wait till KDE and GNOME come of
age.

X was never meant to talk to weird cards created by vendors who refuse
to release specs for the card, and/or create the X servers themselves.
You've had horrifying experiences setting up Xfree, ever tried any of
the commercial X servers? If you have a halfway decent card, its a
breeze to install (yes completely gui based).
How many of those 8 yrs did you spend working on Unix? That too on X?

Get real. Thats the strongest point for linux. Sounds like you've never
been to deja.com and did a search for "linux AND help".

You have to ask specific questions. Expecting a reply to "my sound card
doesnt work" is foolish. Try asking on this list for a start.

Ahhh the very essence of linux. Choose the one you like, stick with it.
One Thing, as in Microsoft, is Not Good, as we hve all seen. Its good to
have the power to choose.

Unclear. Which open standard are you talking about and how is Sun, along
with Java involved?

It doesnt take a stone to make NT BSOD. A gentle cough normally works
well :D
