Jesus is coming. Look busy.
Paul: Since you ask for opinions...
Computers just get cheaper and operating systems more powerful all the
time....to the point that they are practically FREE right now.
For a few weeks pay you can have a G4 Mac powerful enough to run every facit of
governing a small maritime nation like Portugal, Italy or Spain. But if thats
more than you intend...you can keep on using your old Mac.
Personally, I tend to form emotional attachments to my Macs.
I used my wickedly fast 40 Mhz 68030 Macintosh IIfx (about $8,000.00 new) and
my even faster fully maxed-out 68040 Quadra 950 ( about $10, 000 new with the
WREN SCSI brick in it) long after they were obsolete and am now still using a
maxed-out Daystar MP 800+ with four hard drives and 1.5 gigs of RAM in it
(about $19,000 new in 1997) .
Contrast this to the 500Mhz G3 DV iMac that I picked up for my daughter on eBay
last year for about $800.00 or my wife's 450 Mhz G3 tower, which was under $2,
000.00.
If you spend enough time on a Mac to warrant the expense then go for it. ...and
you will find that its silly to use a 40 Mhz IIfx and System 7.1 if you can use
OSX on a Dual 1.250 Ghz G4 for a lot less money !!!
