While we are on this topic, I have the same problem, but even when I use Airport to connect. I have 10.2 and that hasn't helped. I also get to imaginary connections and I get stuck often at the "connecting to ISP" message which keeps the phone line open trying to connect. The only way to disconnect is to unplug the airport and plug it in again! I have all the latest patches etc for the base station.
