I agree, if an extended warranty is used for a repair it's a great 
value, but generally they're purchased and never used, thus putting 
tons of money into retailers/manufacturers pockets. However, as I 
wrote in my reply to Dave, I've never thought of an extended warranty 
as insurance, but if you think of it that way it makes a heck of a 
lot more sense.

That is a good point. I just hope I never have reason to sell one of 
my Macs while it's still under AppleCare.
