Sure, you can go somewhere else, but there's no free lunch. My point 
was that it's not so smart to extend the warranty on, say, a toaster, 
but it is on a computer. I simply look at the same way I look at a tip 
when I eat out; if I can't afford the extra 15%, I can't afford to eat 
out. I view the AppleCare as a necessity, so my $1799 15" G4 SD iMac 
was really $1949, which, by my reckoning, was and is still a good value.

If a box has a superior "free" warranty to Apple's, you can be sure 
you're paying for it somewhere.
